Tim's Inspirations

One of the nice things about being self-employed is that you can have music and cats around all the time. Alas, I'm office-bound by day now, but there are still the evenings and weekends ...

cats

Cats

Jake (right) and Elwood are named after The Blues Brothers. We took one look at kitten Jake and decided that he was the John Belushi of cats. Now he's nine years old, and we were right. He'll try ANYthing. Elwood is the original "fraidy cat" so on average we have two normal cats.

They sleep on me most nights. They are why I am a regular reader of http://icanhascheezburger.com

motorcycle

Shirogane

"Shirogane" is Japanese for "silver". My Shirogane is a Honda ST1300, quiet and docile in town, but capable of a full-throated roar on the highway. Customized with a Russell seat and a CalSci windshield. We've already been to California together, and we're planning more.

Victoria sea view

Victoria

And of course there is much to be said for living on an island in the Pacific. A walk by the seashore usually resets one's enthusiasm.

Music

Each evening my office is filled with non-standard stuff like Bjork, Richard Thompson (the thinking man's guitar wizard), Eva Cassidy, Patty Griffin, Hossam Ramzy, Gillian Welch, Townes Van Zandt, June Tabor, Kate Rusby, Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), Ekova, Jan Garbarek (saxophone master), Peter Gabriel or Youssou n'Dour.

Books

OK, I admit it - I read science fiction and fantasy. Lots of it. Usually intelligent stuff - Terry Pratchett, Larry Niven, Neal Stephenson, Neil Gaiman, China Miˇville, and many more.

Coffee

Someone once said that a programmer is a mechanism for turning coffee into code. I believe it. I use a Saeco Aroma espresso machine, a grinder, and beans from Serious Coffee or other sources that take their coffee seriously. No double-doubles here.
