Designing Web Usability
The Practice of Simplicity
Jakob Nielsen
Usability guru Nielsen maintains his position at the top of the heap with this book. He explains his beliefs crisply and efficiently, with lots of screen shots. He recognizes the arguments of his critics, and usually responds to them. In many cases, Nielsen not only criticizes techniques used in real pages, but also explains how they could have been done better at minimal effort and without greatly compromising the overall design. I recommend this book as a must-have for Web designers, builders and content producers.

Information Ecology
Mastering the information and knowledge environment
Thomas H. Davenport
This is an important book. As the cover blurb says, "Davenport makes explicit what many managers already know in their gut: that useful information flow depends on people, not equipment."
After a brief examination of "information incompetence," Davenport lays out a detailed explanation of how we can improve the flow and usefulness of information. It's a non-technical and very readable book. Get it now!
